Retirement Plans Overview

  • 401(k) Plans
401(k) plans are employer-sponsored retirement savings accounts that allow employees to contribute a portion of their pre-tax salary. Employers often match a percentage of these contributions. These plans offer tax advantages and a wide range of investment options.
  • 401(a) Plans
401(a) plans are similar to 401(k) plans but are typically offered by government and non-profit organizations. They may have different contribution limits and employer matching rules.
  • 403(b) Plans
403(b) plans are retirement savings plans for employees of public schools, non-profits, and certain other tax-exempt organizations. They allow employees to make pre-tax contributions and may include employer contributions.
  • Nonqualified Deferred Compensation (NQDC) Plans
NQDC plans are employer-sponsored plans that allow highly compensated employees to defer a portion of their compensation to a future date, usually retirement. These plans offer tax deferral benefits and can be customized to meet specific financial goals. We have professionals, Nonqualified Plan Consultant NQPC™, with experience to help you create and effectively run Deferred-Compensation Plans, Executive Bonus Plans, Group Carve-Out Plans, Split-Dollar Life Insurance Plans, and Cash Balance Plans.
    • 457(b) Plan is a type of retirement savings plan available to employees of state and local governments, as well as certain tax-exempt organizations. This plan allows employees to defer a portion of their salary into a tax-deferred account for retirement purposes. Contributions to a 457(b) plan are made on a pre-tax basis, meaning they reduce the employee's taxable income for the year in which the contribution is made. Withdrawals from the plan are generally taxed as ordinary income when distributed during retirement.

    • 457(f) Plan: also known as a nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC) plan, is a type of executive compensation plan typically offered to highly compensated employees, executives, and key personnel in nonprofit organizations and governmental entities. Unlike a 457(b) plan, which has limits on contributions and favorable tax treatment, a 457(f) plan allows for the deferral of compensation beyond what is allowed in qualified retirement plans. Contributions to a 457(f) plan are not tax-deductible when made, but the funds grow tax-deferred until they are distributed. Distributions from a 457(f) plan are taxed as ordinary income when received.

  • Government Retirement Plans
We focus on coordinating the retirement plan with existing benefits like pensions (PERS) and IAP. Our team has experience in creating and maintaining 457(b), 457(f), 403(b) and 401(a) plans. We lean into employee engagement and education to ensure that your employees are getting the most out of their plans.
