Phil Sherman, CFP®, CPFA®, NQPC™
Senior Retirement Plan Consultant
Phil joined Deschutes in 2019 and serves as the firm’s Senior Retirement Plan Consultant. Phil’s background as a CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™) professional and as an extraordinarily gifted communicator have proved to be major additions to his client relationships. Phil was honored to be named the winner of PlanAdviser’s Retirement Plan Advisor of the Year for the Plan Participant Service category in 2024. He is a captivating presenter at national conferences for plan advisors on the work he and his team have done moving the education needle and providing support to plan sponsors in an ever-evolving landscape.
Locally, Phil serves as the President-Elect for the Western Pension & Benefits Council (WP&BC) chapter of Portland, a non-profit that was founded in 1954 to address the educational needs of pension specialists. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was raised in a family of educators; therefore, it should be no surprise that his professional mission is to bridge the knowledge gap for plan sponsors and participants alike. That’s the focus of his work at Deschutes; he considers himself a financial educator and coach to those with whom he consults.
Along with his wife and dog Ted, Phil enjoys the outdoor activities so readily available in the Pacific Northwest. Among their downtime activities are camping, Timbers and Blazers games, and helping out in the community.
