Ben Kelley

There is more to Ben Kelley than his credentials. True, he is a lawyer, an economist, and a financial planner. At heart, though, Ben is a problem solver.

As a CFA Charterholder and Director of Wealth Management for Deschutes’ individual clients, Ben delivers a deep level of knowledge in financial planning and case design. He acknowledges that these topics are complex, and he feels privileged to use his education, creativity and abilities to work through the challenges they present. Ben also contributes to compliance oversight for the firm and serves as the Chair of the investment committee.

Ben works with clients whose goals vary, helping them develop strategies to build and protect the assets they’ve worked hard to accumulate. As a financial advisor, he feels a heavy responsibility for making appropriate recommendations that will impact his clients’ lifetime savings. His legal knowledge and background allow him to find solutions others may miss.

Deschutes’ team approach to working with clients is something Ben particularly appreciates. Trust, he says, is the most important factor in a good relationship between a client and financial advisor, and Ben values those relationships he and Deschutes have established.

Ben earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Oregon, and his JD – with honors – from the U of O School of Law. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar and the Multnomah Bar Association, where he has served on various committees. He is a certified tax preparer, in which capacity he has volunteered his time to prepare tax returns for people who need help but are unable to afford it.

Before joining Deschutes in 2011, Ben was a founding partner of Moser Kelley LLP, a general practice law firm. Today, he enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, and rooting for the Trailblazers and other Oregon sports teams.
